Growing Pains, Imposter Syndrome and Leveling Up
I've got so much to share with you today, especially about my recent live training. If you didn't know, I’ve committed to hosting live training sessions every other Thursday at 10 a.m. Pacific time. These sessions are all about providing value to those who need help with sales and marketing, covering everything from business growth to marketing strategies.
During today's training, we had 95 participants register—though we initially had around 130 sign-ups, some were duplicates or tests. Out of those 95, about 30 joined us at the peak, and 14 stayed until the end. You might wonder if those numbers are good or bad. Well, industry standards suggest a 30% show rate for webinars, so we're probably a little under, but I’m happy with it.
To be honest, I was hoping for more attendees, but the quality of the conversations we had made up for it. Some participants really opened up, and we had some meaningful discussions, brainstorming sessions, and one-on-one conversations. This wasn't your typical webinar where you sign up just to hear someone pitch themselves. I didn’t pitch anything—it was pure training.
If you're ever looking for actual free training from someone who has been in sales for 20 years and has worked with multiple six- and seven-figure businesses, I’m your person. I’ve been doing this online for about seven or eight years, but my sales journey started long before that. For a long time, I struggled with owning my expertise, hiding because I feared what people might think of me. But now, I embrace it—I'm the Sales Mama, and I’m proud of it.
The feedback from today's session was overwhelmingly positive. I love getting surveys after each training to see what resonated and what didn’t. A few years ago, my surveys weren’t great—I won’t lie, they were pretty bad. But now, I’m getting all fives. I’ve worked incredibly hard to get where I am, and I’m proud of the progress I’ve made, even if I sometimes downplay it.
Today’s training was a diverse mix of participants from different industries—wholesale, quilting, network marketing, real estate, chiropractic, digital marketing, bookkeeping, and finance. It was amazing to see such a wide range of businesses come together. I love this stuff! Besides spending time with my family and riding horses, talking business and sales is what I’m passionate about.
Our session wasn’t just about the practical side of sales; it got emotional too. There were a few tears, some F-bombs, but it was all part of the process. I don’t think that kind of openness would happen in a typical “bro marketing” environment. This is why Sales Mama exists—because we do sales differently. We create a space where women can open up and be vulnerable, where we can share our fears and frustrations without judgment.
We also touched on social media and how it’s often filled with fake personas. If you look at my Sales Mama page, you might wonder who I think I am with just 100 followers. But here’s the thing—social media does not equal success. It’s just a fraction of my marketing strategy. Real connection, community, and networking are where the real opportunities lie.
This week, I faced a challenge that knocked me off my rocker, and I want to share it with you because I believe in being transparent about the ups and downs of this journey. Growing a business isn’t easy—it’s not for the faint of heart. There’s fear, vulnerability, and sometimes, haters and trolls. A few years ago, negative comments would have crushed me, but now I just brush them off. They don’t pay my bills, and I refuse to let them derail my progress.
I’ve worked incredibly hard to get where I am today, and it hasn’t always been easy. I didn’t come from money—I grew up on food stamps and worked from a young age to support myself. I’ve had to fight for everything I have. So when people make assumptions about my success, it can be frustrating, but I remind myself that their judgments don’t define me.
As you grow in your business, you’ll face challenges too. You’ll learn to shed old identities and embrace new ones, even if it means putting a target on your back. But with that growth comes a thicker skin and a deeper understanding of who you are and what you stand for.
I’m committed to helping you navigate these challenges. Whether you’re building a million-dollar business or running a small consulting gig, remember that success looks different for everyone. You don’t need all the bells and whistles to live a comfortable, abundant life. Sometimes, it’s about finding what works for you and following that path, no matter what others say.
So, here I am, doing the work, growing the business, and helping you along the way. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. And remember, if you ever feel like this journey is too much, it’s okay to pivot. There’s no right or wrong way to do this—just your way.
Thanks for joining me on this journey. Let’s keep growing together.
